Chinese Herbal Medicine includes the use of a variety of plants, minerals and some animal products to alleviate illness. Traditionally the medicinal substances are boiled as a kind of tea or ground into powders, today the formulas are available prepared in a number of different formats. At China Dragon only the highest quality tested (as Heavy metal and Pesticide free) raw herbs are sourced from China, no endangered species are used, including endangered plants. The animal products used are few, mostly shells and bone preparations and these are only prescribed upon agreement with the user. Vegetarian alternatives are available in most cases.
The herbs at China Dragon are prepared onsite, ground into powders. The powders differ from commercial preparations in that the quality is monitored by the practitioner not a factory, and they allow the same flexibility as classical methods. In this way formulas are easy to use, economical and can be tailored to an individual’s needs. For this reason prescriptions are not available over the counter, only by appointment.
The first clinical manual on the use of Chinese Herbal Medicine dates from around 2000 years ago. The ‘Treatise on Cold Damage’ or Shang Han Lun includes treatment for a number of conditions including –
- Anxiety, Insomnia
- Digestive Disorders
- Women’s Health and Pregnancy
- Skin Conditions
- Circulatory and Respiratory Problems
